WHO WE ARE
STAR members range from teenagers to senior citizens. We do have one thing in common, though: we are all volunteers when working with our therapy dog partners. Many of us have full or part-time jobs including two veterinarians and a vet tech, two college professors, an attorney, several nurses, a special education teacher, a pediatrican, and an artist. Others are still in school or, at the other end of the career spectrum, have retired and are now able to give more time to therapy activities.
What we are not:
STAR is not an organization that trains or registers service dogs or emotional support dogs.
Service dogs are trained to perform tasks and to do work that eases their handlers’ disabilities. Emotional support dogs provide their owners therapeutic benefits through companionship but do not carry as much right of access as service dogs.
Our Supporters:
STAR has been fortunate enough to receive donations from a variety of sources. Starting with the most recent, our sponsors have included:
Thrivent Financial
AmazonSmile
Chuck Allen (bequest)
Since STAR is now a 501(c)3 organization, any gifts to us are fully tax-deductible.
